Melissa’s is a multi-generational skydiver who’s involved in many aspects of skydiving and skydiving disciplines (freefly, FS, competition, world records, DZO experience, instructor, load organizer) has put her business savvy, networking skills, and motivation to work. She’s been busy connecting members in places to support USPA, listening to aspects in which USPA can improve, and gather information to help her best represent YOU – the USPA members.
Melissa’s Facebook Group holds conversations such as the E-license – which was brought to the entire membership for survey – discussions on the Dillighman situation in Hawaii, questions about things that were passed at meetings, feedback for the 4-Way FS rookie class and more!
Melissa joined the Safety & Training sub-committee Directors, Luke Aikins and Jack Pyland and assembled the leaders in the angle flying community to address the growing concerns amongst the angle flying community.
After several meetings with the leaders and other contributors, Melissa drafted a new section of the 6-12 part of the Skydiver Information Manual which was unanimously accepted and voted in at the winter 2021 Board Meeting.
You can read the Movement Jumps section and article recap HERE.
At the Winter 2021 USPA Board Meeting, Melissa presented the creation of a Sport Promotion Committee and it was unanimously accepted as a sub-committee of Membership Services.
The Sport Promotion sub-committee’s purpose is to identify objectives and explain how marketing activities will help USPA achieve its broader goals and objectives by:
INSPIRE – using strategies to promote getting people into the sport of skydiving
COVERT – showcasing next steps, goals, possibilities, culture, and community to convert tandems into licensed jumpers
SUPPORT – establish methods to promote programs, events, awards, instructional opportunities, and other resources to ensure longevity
PERCEPTION – To consistently showcase skydiving as a professional sport across all channels covering various topics to educate the public about all aspects of our sport.
Since the board meeting a Working Group of members was created to help support the sub-committee and has tackled topics such as the revamp of the SIS program, how to inspire people to get into the sport, possible USPA name change, and USPA events.
